Exclusive Ikedaya Pattern in Koshu Inden: "Kodomo-Omoi no Mori - The Nurturing Forest "
When thinking about Japan's seasonal colors, many people may picture the pink hues of cherry blossoms in spring. However, the "season of fresh greenery" that follows after the cherry blossoms have fallen is also a time of exceptional beauty.
Right now is that very season. Parks and forests are filled with vibrant green, full of life and energy.

In Japanese, this fresh green color is called "Shinryoku" (新緑 / shinryoku).
The word "Shin" (新) means "new," and "Ryoku" (緑) means "green." It represents the beautiful sight of young leaves sprouting and swaying in the breeze.
Before the peak of summer arrives, this is a season that is neither too hot nor too cold—just pleasantly refreshing. The gentle breeze carries the scent of young leaves, creating a comfortable atmosphere.
For Japanese people, shinryoku symbolizes "renewal of life," "growth," and "hope", and it is deeply rooted in their hearts.
"Kodomo-Omoi no Mori" Pattern

At Ikedaya, we develop products and organize events based on our philosophy: "Nurturing children's ability to live and grow."
We call this initiative the "Kodomo-Omoi no Mori Project" (The Nurturing Forest Project).
“Kodomo” means “children,” “Omoi” means “heartfelt thoughts,” and “Mori” means “forest.” The name reflects our hope for a world where children grow up surrounded by warmth, compassion, and natural beauty.
The "Kodomo-Omoi no Mori" Pattern is the result of combining this philosophy with Koshu Inden, a traditional Japanese leather craft.
What is Koshu Inden? → Learn more in this article.
The "Kodomo-Omoi no Mori" Pattern is designed with a rich forest and the diverse life it nurtures as its motif.
Forests are home to many different creatures, forming a vibrant and diverse ecosystem.
We hope that, like these forests, children—the future of our world—can grow freely, learning and experiencing many things along the way.
A Special Coloring Technique

The "Kodomo-Omoi no Mori" Pattern features a unique coloring technique that sets it apart from traditional Inden designs.
Usually, Inden patterns are created by applying one or two colors of lacquer onto single-colored deerskin.
However, the "Kodomo-Omoi no Mori" Pattern is made using a special method: the design is first hand-dyed with green and white pigments, then layered with black lacquer.
The combination of vibrant pigments and the subtle shine of lacquer creates a beautiful contrast.
This special design is an exclusive item available only at Ikedaya.
Bringing the Spirit of Fresh Greenery into Daily Life
May is a special time in Japan, when the fresh green leaves shine brilliantly.
The lush greenery of young leaves reminds us of nature’s beauty and the joy of growth.
A gentle gift for someone you care about feels just right this season.
