Make Your Own Mini Randoseru: Ikedaya’s Hands-On Workshop with Real Materials

Make Your Own Mini Randoseru: Ikedaya’s Hands-On Workshop with Real Materials

At Ikedaya, we don’t just sell backpacks and bags—we also provide hands-on workshops where children can experience the joy of creating something with their own hands. Among these, one of the most popular is the Mini Randoseru Workshop, where children craft a miniature version of a Japanese school backpack using our original kit.

Real Materials, Authentic Craftsmanship

The materials used in this workshop are the same as those used in our full-size Ikedaya randoseru backpacks. The genuine cowhide leather, inner lining, and metal fittings such as rivets and hooks are all identical to those found in our actual products. Through this workshop, children are invited to engage in authentic craftsmanship and experience the textures and quality of real materials.

The Joy of Assembling It Yourself

From attaching the lining to the leather, hammering in the metal fittings, to threading the cords to shape the bag, each step is done by hand. Children complete their one-of-a-kind mini randoseru while choosing their own color combinations, resulting in vibrant and unique creations. The finished product can be used as a small pouch or accessory case—both practical and personal.

A Valuable Experience Hard to Get at Home

In recent years, opportunities for children to learn crafting or hands-on skills at home have decreased. That’s why this workshop is especially meaningful—it teaches the joy of making something on your own and helps foster an appreciation for the value of well-crafted items. The look of pride on a child’s face when they finish their bag says it all.

A Community-Based Learning Event

This particular workshop was held in May 2025 as part of the Gofukucho Kodomo Seminar (with kodomo meaning “children” in Japanese), an educational event organized by the Gofukucho Shopping Street in central Shizuoka. Local businesses in the area come together to offer unique, hands-on learning experiences for children, each based on their own expertise. It’s a great example of how Japanese shopping streets support the next generation through community-based education and cultural engagement.

Offered at Ikedaya Stores Nationwide
The mini randoseru workshop is also held irregularly at various Ikedaya stores across Japan. From Shizuoka to Ginza, Yokohama Minatomirai, Hamamatsu, Umeda, and Fukuoka Tenjin, we continue to provide these creative opportunities for children. We at Ikedaya believe that supporting children's growth means more than just providing quality products—it also means nurturing meaningful experiences.

Mini Randoseru Available for Purchase

The same high-quality materials used in our workshops are also available in the form of completed mini randoseru on our global website. These charming, handmade items make wonderful gifts and are a perfect way to experience Ikedaya’s craftsmanship.
