About Ikedaya Shizuoka Store

About Ikedaya Shizuoka Store

Ikedaya celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2025.

Founded in 1950 in the former Shimizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Ikedaya has been serving customers for many years. Shimizu is a port town known for its stunning view of Mount Fuji, one of Japan’s most iconic landmarks.

It is also home to Miho no Matsubara, a scenic coastal pine grove designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Additionally, the town is famous as the setting of the popular Japanese anime Chibi Maruko-chan, which is well-loved across Asia.

The former Ikedaya Shimizu store was merged with the Ikedaya Shizuoka store a few years ago. As a result, our headquarters is now located in Aoi Ward, Shizuoka City, the capital of Shizuoka Prefecture.

Access

Ikedaya Shizuoka Store is conveniently located just a 7-minute walk from JR Shizuoka Station. From Tokyo, it takes only about one hour by Shinkansen (bullet train). While we also have a store in Tokyo’s Ginza district, many customers choose to visit our Shizuoka store from afar.

Gofukucho Street – A Historic Shopping District

Our store is located on Gofukucho Street, a historic shopping district named after the kimono and fabric merchants that once flourished here. Today, the area features a wide variety of shops, making it a lively main street for locals. Unlike the bustling streets of Tokyo, a walk through Shizuoka offers a glimpse into everyday life in Japan.

Highlights of Ikedaya Shizuoka Store

Randoseru – Japanese School Backpack

At Ikedaya Shizuoka Store, you’ll find our signature product, the randoseru – the traditional Japanese school bag – along with suitcases, shoulder bags, wallets, and more.

From April to June each year, families visit our store to select the perfect randoseru for their children starting school. The weekends are especially busy, but it’s heartwarming to see children excitedly choosing their colorful school bags in anticipation of their new school life.

For international customers, we offer randoseru that can be taken home on the same day. If you're interested, please ask our staff when you visit.

Koshu Inden – Traditional Japanese Leathercraft

We offer one of the largest collections of Koshu Inden, a traditional Japanese craft made by decorating deerskin with lacquer patterns. These elegant and intricate leather accessories make wonderful souvenirs, and we also carry exclusive designs available only at Ikedaya.

The traditional patterns used in Koshu Inden often carry meanings of good fortune and protection. We hope you’ll find a design that speaks to you.

Suitcases

We also carry high-quality suitcases. If you find yourself needing an extra suitcase during your travels, feel free to stop by.
