April’s Zodiac Sign “Tatsu” | Ikedaya’s Exclusive Koshu Inden with a Dragon Motif

April’s Zodiac Sign “Tatsu” | Ikedaya’s Exclusive Koshu Inden with a Dragon Motif

In Japan, the Junishi, or the twelve signs of the zodiac, has long been used as a traditional system for representing not only years, but also directions and even times of day.
This idea originated in ancient China. Each of the twelve divisions was assigned an animal, and together they came to symbolize the cycle of the seasons as well as certain human traits.

April’s Zodiac Sign: Tatsu (Dragon)
Among the twelve zodiac signs, Tatsu is the only one that does not represent a real animal. Instead, it refers to the imaginary creature known as the dragon.
In Japan, dragons have long been seen as auspicious beings associated with strength, dignity, water, and the heavens. Among the twelve zodiac signs, Tatsu is also known as a symbol of success and protection.

Tatsu: A Sign That Suggests Strength and Forward Movement
The zodiac character 辰 (tatsu) is not simply a direct reference to the dragon itself. It has also been understood as a character that symbolizes the movement of the seasons and the flow of nature. It can be seen as a sign that suggests the seasonal shift from spring to early summer, as well as the energy of things moving forward.

For this reason, Tatsu is not only a bold and powerful sign. It also feels fitting for times when you want to begin something new or value a positive, forward-looking mindset.
